Benoni MacTalla is a Grade 2 Pipe Band based in Benoni, Gauteng, South Africa.
The Benoni Mactalla Pipe Band is a Grade 2 South African Pipe Band and was formed in 1999 by then Pipe Major Chris Macauly. The band was born out of a need for a senior band, where players from the highly successful Benoni High School Pipe Band could continue competing and honing their craft at a high level. At that stage almost all members of the senior band came directly from the school band. Wanting to learn how to play the Bagpipes | Snare Drums | Base Drums & Drum Major New members are most welcome
A lot has happened over the 15 years since those early days. Benoni Mactalla has competed at numerous local competitions, and has travelled overseas to compete in the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow. Benoni Mactalla Pipe Band is the only South African Pipe Band to have won a World Championship in their grade, which they achieved in 2009 under current Pipe Major, Robert du Toit. The band now boasts members from across South Africa, and has hosted a number of overseas guest players from some of the best Pipe Bands in the U.K., New Zealand and Australia.
Benoni Mactalla is currently pursuing the goal of competing at the Australian National Pipe Band Championships 2016 in Sydney, where they will be pitted against some of the finest pipers and drummers in the world.
